Overview:
Experience a 3 day long 1600-kilometre voyage through the changing African scenery as the Rovos Rail makes its way westwards through Mafikeng into Botswana and then north towards Mahalapye, cutting the Tropic of Capricorn just after Gaborone. Once the train has passed through the dry reaches of Botswana it arrives at Plumtree in the late afternoon for border formalities with Zimbabwe. Continuing in a northwesterly direction, the train passes Bulawayo heading towards Thompson’s Junction and Hwange Game Reserve where you can spot animals from the train. The Victoria Falls and the elegant colonial-style Victoria Falls Hotel are a perfect destination. The surrounding areas offer travelers many opportunities like cruises, adrenaline pumping whitewater rafting on the Zambezi River as well amazing game viewing and photo safaris.

Day to Day Itinerary:

Day 1

09h30 The train departs Rovos Rail Station in Pretoria. Lunch is served in the dining car/s as the train travels the goldfields of Johannesburg. Enjoy afternoon tea and dinner en route to Mafikeng for border formalities with Botswana and overnight.

Day 2

Day at leisure. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served as the train travels northwards through Botswana’s capital city, Gaborone, and on to Plumtree for Zimbabwean border formalities. Overnight stop on board at Mpopoma. 

Day 3

Breakfast is served as the train departs Mpopoma. Enjoy lunch while travelling along the eastern edge of Hwange Park along one of Africa’s longest stretches of straight railway line – 114 kilometres. Arrive at Kennedy Siding for a 15h00 game drive at The Hide. Dinner is served in the dining car/s en route to Thompsons Junction for the overnight stop.

Day 4

Breakfast is enjoyed while travelling towards the Zambezi River. 10h00 Arrive at journey’s end in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.
