Alongside mountains and seas, this memorable journey between Christchurch and Picton stops at Blenheim and the renowned whale watching town of Kaikoura. Along 98 kilometres of ruggedly beautiful coastline you’ll get astonishingly close to the surging Pacific Ocean and the Kaikoura Ranges. You’ll also travel through beautiful wine growing regions, across broad, braided rivers and the rich patchwork farming landscape of the Canterbury Plains.

The Coastal Pacific is currently on its scheduled spring timetable of running long weekends, Thursday-Sunday, and will return to daily journeys from 14 December 2023 until 28 April 2024.

  • Bookable any time before the train departs (subject to seat availability)
Flexi fares include:
  • 50% refundable up to 24 hours before travel
  • Unlimited date changes up to 24 hours before travel (a fare upgrade might be required and amended travel must be within 6 months of the original travel date)
  • Free stopovers (stop off and visit towns and places of interest en-route)
  • Bookable any time before the train departs (subject to fare availability)
