The Golden Chariot is a premier luxury train in India, offering an opulent journey through the rich cultural tapestry of South India. Operated by the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation in collaboration with the IRCTC, the train commenced operations in 2008 . Its design draws inspiration from traditional South Indian architecture and royal heritage, featuring 44 luxurious cabins named after historic dynasties such as Hoysala, Chalukya, and Vijayanagara.
The train offers curated itineraries that include visits to UNESCO World Heritage Sites, wildlife safaris, and serene backwaters . Onboard amenities include fine dining restaurants, a lounge bar, wellness spa, and modern entertainment options . Operating from October to March, the Golden Chariot provides travelers with a unique opportunity to experience the grandeur of South India in a regal setting.
The Golden Chariot offers luxurious accommodations aboard its 44 guest cabins, including 13 double-bed cabins, 30 twin-bed cabins, and one specially designed for differently-abled passengers. Each cabin is elegantly decorated with intricate carvings and furniture inspired by Hoysala and Mysore architecture, providing a royal ambiance.
Modern amenities such as air conditioning, LCD televisions with satellite channels, Wi-Fi, en-suite bathrooms with toiletries, and writing desks ensure a comfortable stay. The cabins are thoughtfully designed to offer guests a blend of traditional aesthetics and contemporary comforts, making the journey aboard the Golden Chariot a memorable experience.
Onboard the Golden Chariot, guests are treated to an exceptional dining experience in two elegantly appointed restaurants: Nalapaka and Ruchi. Nalapaka, named after the legendary chef Nala from the Mahabharata, offers a refined ambiance inspired by Halebid's architecture, serving a delectable spread of vegetarian and non-vegetarian cuisines . Ruchi, meaning 'taste' in Sanskrit, presents a fine selection of gourmet delicacies, blending Indian and Continental flavors with a contemporary twist . The train's culinary offerings are meticulously prepared using locally sourced ingredients, ensuring authenticity and freshness in every dish.
